Christian Hempel

Q&A with Laura Mikkelsen (26, student) who received therapy from Sahebjeet Kaur who is an RCI-Licensed psychologist.

Q: Did you have any concerns or expectations before starting the sessions?

A: Before starting, I was a bit nervous about how the communication would go between the psychologist and me, and whether we’d have any trouble connecting. I was also curious to see if talking to a psychologist from another country, with a different culture, would bring a different perspective.

Q: Did you feel that the psychologist understood the cultural aspects relevant to your experiences and perspectives?

A: I felt very understood by the psychologist and didn’t notice any cultural differences.

Q: How would you describe the communication between you and the psychologist?

A: I’ve had therapy with a Danish psychologist before and felt that it was exactly the same, except that we spoke in English. I felt that the psychologist understood me and vice versa. If I forgot a word, she was good at suggesting alternatives, showing that she understood me. She sometimes used professional terms that could be hard to understand, but she could explain them in simpler words, so it was fine.

Q: What therapeutic methods or approaches did the psychologist use?

A: She wanted me to prepare some examples to work from in the next session, that would help identify patterns in my behavior to focus on. I found the approach very appropriate for my situation.

Q: Overall, how satisfied are you with the therapy sessions?

A: Overall, I am very satisfied and could imagine using this method again if available. I liked the distance between us and being able to talk from my own safe space. The least appealing part was that the session times were either very early or very late in the day.

Q: How did the online format affect your experience of therapy?

A: I felt more comfortable talking that way.

Q: How did the technical aspects of receiving meeting links work, could you see yourself booking therapy in this way? Why?

A: It worked really well with the link, I went straight in and the psychologist let me into the meeting room. I could see myself using therapy in that way again because it was straightforward, very simple, and as I said earlier, I can sit in my most safe surroundings.

Q: How does your experience with the Indian psychologist compare to your previous experiences with Danish psychologists?

A: I was assigned a psychologist for these sessions, but I was able to read some info about her and her work before we started, it was very nice! The Danish psychologists are a little difficult to figure out. Who best suits your needs.
